Universal Studios Hollywood’s Super Nintendo World officially opens on February 17th, but the new land is now in technical rehearsals. This means that it’s open to guests but may operate intermittently throughout the day with some elements not wholly functional.

At the all-new Nintendo-themed area, guests can purchase a Power-Up Band to enhance their trip to the land by taking part in interactive experiences and competing against other teams to gain the highest score. The wearable wristbands, which sync to the Universal Studios Hollywood app, feature six character designs: Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Toad, and Princess Daisy. The wristband designs determine which team guests will be part of.

With a Power-Up Band, guests will be able to collect digital coins and stamps from gameplay activities and experiences throughout the land. A Power-Up Band also allows guests to participate in Key Challenges, including Goomba Crazy Crank, Koopa Troopa POWer Punch, Piranha Plant Nap Mishap, and Thwomp Panel Panic. By successfully winning challenges, keys are accumulated. After collecting at least three keys, access to the final boss battle with Bowser Jr is unlocked.

On Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, guests with a Power-Up Band can tap their wristband on the ride vehicle’s steering wheel to track the coins they earn on the ride and gauge their ranking against others.

Additionally, according to Universal Studios Hollywood, the Power-Up Band may provide an enhanced experience during the meet-and-greet interactions with Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach.

Guests can track their personal and team scores on the Universal Studios Hollywood app by linking their wristband or at Checkpoint Screens situated throughout the land.

Power-Up Bands are available for purchase at select Universal CityWalk and in-park locations, including inside Super Nintendo World itself, for $40 plus tax.
