Walt Disney Imagineering has unveiled a next-generation robotic character based on Olaf, the snowman from Disney‘s Frozen. Disney says his movement, appearance, and expressions were designed to mirror the Olaf audiences know from the films, down to the smallest gesture, describing the new animatronic as “one of the most expressive and true-to-life characters built.”

To create Olaf’s snow-like shimmer, iridescent fibers were used to catch the light, much like freshly fallen snow. He is capable of walking, engaging in conversations, and features fully articulated facial movements. His eyes, mouth, carrot nose, and even his stick arms can move independently, and both his arms and nose are designed to detach just as they do in the films.

Disney Imagineering turned to reinforcement learning, a field of artificial intelligence, to replicate Olaf and stretch the hardware far enough to meet the artists’ vision.
“This debut marks a new chapter in Disney character innovation, one where technology, storytelling, and collaboration come together to bring screen to reality,” the company wrote on its official blog.
Guests will meet this Olaf at select Disney parks. He is set to appear in the Arendelle Bay Show in the new World of Frozen land opening at Disneyland Paris’ Disney Adventure World theme park on March 29, 2026. He will also make limited-time special appearances at World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
