Universal Orlando has confirmed that “construction activity” is set to begin within Islands of Adventure, specifically in the Lost Continent area.

Kristen Smith, Director of Public Relations for Universal Orlando, provided this information in an emailed statement to the Orlando Business Journal, noting that there will be construction activity in the coming months in the Lost Continent as “part of site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments.”

This announcement follows the recent news that Universal applied for a permit on September 10 to demolish 4.9 acres of “theme park site” at Islands of Adventure, including retail, show, and attraction buildings. The acreage mentioned in the permit corresponds closely to the footprints of the closed attractions “Poseidon’s Fury” and “The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad,” as well as nearby areas, as outlined in the image above.

While Universal confirmed the plans for construction, they did not clarify whether this activity would relate to the redevelopment of the specific attractions in question. Universal also did not disclose any information about the upcoming development plans.
