A newly filed permit with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection offers an updated look at the expansion in development at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, revealing reconfigured structures and several larger buildings than previously shown.

Disney has not officially confirmed the specific details reflected in the filing. Still, the documents provide fresh insight into how the upcoming Disney Villains-themed land and Pixar’s Cars-inspired Piston Peak area may be arranged in the former Rivers of America.

Permit filing shows updated building layouts for Magic Kingdom expansion

To better understand the scope and layout changes, we overlaid the newly released document from February 2026 onto a Google Earth image of Magic Kingdom to illustrate how the expansion fits within the existing park footprint. We also included an overlay of the January 2026 filing for comparison, allowing you to slide between the two versions. Each structure has been labeled numerically to examine possible functions and layout adjustments.

Building 1

This structure is the largest outlined in the permit. It’s located in the Villains-themed area and is widely believed to house a major dark ride attraction.

The February 2026 permit shows notable changes in both size and shape. Based on Google Earth measurements, the building measured approximately 83,000 square feet in the January 2026 filing. The newly submitted plans increase that footprint to roughly 94,000 square feet. Disney has remained tight-lipped about specific attractions planned for the Villains land, but the scale of this structure points to a headline experience.

Building 2

The purpose of this structure remains less clear. Located toward the outskirts of the Villains land, some are speculating it could accommodate a station for the Walt Disney World Railroad. Others believe its tucked-away positioning suggests a backstage facility.

This building has also grown slightly, increasing from about 8,500 square feet to approximately 9,300 square feet, according to Google Earth measurements.

Building 3

Another sizable structure within the Villains land, this has expanded considerably. The January 2026 document placed it at roughly 56,000 square feet, while the new filing shows it closer to 65,000 square feet.

The building is large enough to support another major attraction, though it is unclear whether it will house a ride.

Building 4

This is one of the structures that has decreased in size, going from about 15,800 square feet to roughly 12,000 square feet. Its footprint and shape have also shifted.

It’s within the Villains land, but its intended use remains uncertain, with possibilities ranging from retail to dining or other guest amenities.

Building 5

Situated on what appears to be the outer edge of the Villains land, but not necessarily within it, this facility has generated speculation due to its proximity to the Haunted Mansion. Rumors suggest it could serve as a Haunted Mansion-themed addition.

Compared to the January 2026 permit, this structure has decreased in size and changed layout. It shifted from a square footprint to a more rectangular configuration with a cutout. Google Earth estimates show a reduction from approximately 5,800 square feet to roughly 4,000 square feet.

Building 6

This structure has undergone the most dramatic transformation. Originally depicted as an almost octagonal building, it now appears more rectangular with multiple cutouts and extensions. It has also shifted slightly in position, creating more space between it and the adjacent structure below it.

According to Google Earth measurements, its footprint has decreased significantly, from about 19,300 square feet to approximately 8,900 square feet. This building is believed to be part of Piston Peak, the Cars-inspired expansion that will extend Frontierland.

Building 7

This is the only structure that remains unchanged between the January and February filings. It measures around 47,000 square feet based on Google Earth estimates.

Also part of Piston Peak, this building is expected to house the previously announced rally race ride. It is anticipated that the show building will be concealed by rockwork and other landscaping features to blend with Frontierland’s existing aesthetic.

What This Means

While Disney has not publicly detailed the specific attractions tied to these structures, the newly filed permit provides a clearer picture of how the Villains land and Piston Peak areas may take shape. The revised footprints and altered configurations suggest active refinement of the project’s scope and layout as development moves forward.
