Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment have signed a new multiyear agreement ensuring Netflix will continue to be the exclusive home for Sony’s films following their full theatrical and home entertainment runs.

Currently, Netflix holds Pay-1 rights—the industry term for the post-theatrical and on-demand window—in the United States, Germany, and across Southeast Asia. The expanded deal will gradually take effect starting later in 2026 as territory rights open up, with full global coverage anticipated by early 2029. Beyond new releases, the agreement also gives Netflix access to a curated selection of titles from Sony’s film and television library.

“Our members all over the world love movies and giving them exclusive access to Sony’s much loved films adds incredible value to their subscriptions,” said Lauren Smith, VP of licensing and programming strategy for Netflix. “Sony’s impressive slate of iconic film franchises like ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ and originals like ‘Anyone but You’ have been popular with our U.S. audience and now we’re excited to expand that offering to our members all around the world.”

Netflix and Sony did not disclose the financial details of the agreement, but sources indicate it is valued at more than $7 billion, making it, by all indications, the largest Pay-1 deal ever. By comparison, Netflix’s initial five-year domestic deal with Sony was reportedly worth $2.5 billion.

Under the current agreement, Netflix has already streamed major hits, including Uncharted, It Ends With Us, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and Venom: The Last Dance. Looking ahead, the first wave of films set to appear on Netflix under the new deal includes The Nightingale, Jumanji, Nintendo’s live-action The Legend of Zelda, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles films.

“Our partnership with Netflix has always been incredibly valuable,” said Paul Littmann, EVP of Global Distribution for Sony Pictures Television. “This new Pay-1 deal takes that partnership to the next level and reinforces the enduring appeal of our theatrical releases to Netflix’s global audience. It also further underscores the strength of our independence and unique ability to create meaningful opportunities that benefit our creative stakeholders, consumers, and world-class partners.”
