Horror fans have another reason to revisit the world of IT this Halloween. HBO Max has released a surprise IT: Welcome to Derry episode, taking viewers deeper into the dark history of the malevolent spirit.
Titled A Story of Derry, the 30-minute special centers on three children who enter an area known as the Western Wood, where they come face-to-face with an ancient and frightening presence.
Rather than continuing the events of the television series, the story explores an earlier chapter, expanding on the mythology behind the horror franchise.
IT: Welcome to Derry debuted in 2025 as a prequel to the IT movies, which were based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel. The series has since secured a second season, although HBO has not announced a premiere date. Production is expected to get underway in 2027.
In the meantime, viewers can stream the first season of IT: Welcome to Derry on HBO Max, along with the newly released Halloween special, A Story of Derry.
