Disney+ is turning one of EPCOT’s most recognizable attractions into a new original television series.

The streaming service has ordered a pilot for a Spaceship Earth series, which draws inspiration from the classic attraction housed inside EPCOT’s iconic geodesic sphere. Rather than retelling the attraction’s story, the show will introduce an entirely original adventure.

The official logline reveals that the story centers on a group of teenagers from Earth’s past and future who are brought together after a mission to stop an impending global catastrophe takes an unexpected turn. As they race to set things right, they’ll face a threat as vast and mysterious as time itself.

Jason Fuchs has signed on as both showrunner and executive producer. Michael Waldron will also executive produce, while Lee Toland Krieger has been tapped to direct the pilot in addition to serving as an executive producer. Adam Fishbach and Adam Fasullo are also attached as executive producers. The series is being produced by 20th Television.

Casting for the pilot is in progress.

Spaceship Earth opened with EPCOT in 1982 and is housed inside the towering sphere, which serves as the park’s official icon. The attraction takes guests on a journey through the history of human communication, exploring its evolution from early storytelling and the invention of writing to the printing press, telecommunications, and the digital age.

The project joins a list of Disney productions inspired by its theme park attractions. Over the years, attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and Jungle Cruise have all made the leap from the parks to the screen, with Spaceship Earth becoming the latest attraction to receive the adaptation treatment.
