Disney has revealed plans for a new experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios called “The Magic of Disney Animation,” drawing inspiration from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Once Upon A Studio.

The new experience will take over the building that currently houses Star Wars Launch Bay, transforming it to reflect the style of the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California, complete with Mickey’s iconic Sorcerer Hat.

The story of this attraction unfolds as the animators take a brief break, but the building is still buzzing with activity as the characters spring to life. Inside, guests will interact with and explore silly takes on the Disney Animation headquarters, including the various studio departments. Only this time, the characters have taken over to create the fun adventures.

Guests will witness portraits come to life, reminiscent of the Once Upon A Studio film. Additionally, they will be able to view a short film and participate in character sketching sessions.

Younger guests can enjoy the “Drawn to Wonderland” playground, inspired by the original concept art for Alice in Wonderland by Disney Legend Mary Blair. The playground will feature oversized flowers, musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party playset, and a Tulgey Wood exploration area.

In conjunction with the repurposing of Star Wars Launch Bay, Animation Courtyard will be reimagined into “The Walt Disney Studios,” drawing inspiration from several notable buildings in Burbank. A new entryway will welcome guests into the courtyard, along with the addition of new landscaping elements.

Disney highlighted that guests should “look around”—”you never know who you might see playing in the branches, soaking up the sun or digging in the grass.”

The redevelopment will also feature a version of the Studio Theater, which will continue to showcase “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure,” along with a new Disney Jr. show over at the soundstage.

As part of this transformation, Animation Courtyard, including Star Wars Launch Bay and Disney Junior Play and Dance! will close beginning September 25, 2025, making September 24, 2025 the last day for these attractions. Throughout this closure, guests can still watch “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” and visit “Walt Disney Presents.”

“The Walt Disney Studios” courtyard and “The Magic of Disney Animation” experience are set to open in 2026.
