Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ latest release, Supergirl, opened in theaters with an estimated $68 million in global ticket sales, marking the first weekend of the studio’s new entry in its DC universe.

Supergirl generated an estimated $38 million during its opening weekend at the domestic box office. Prerelease analyst projections had expected the film to earn around $50 million from Thursday through Sunday in the U.S. and Canada, a figure that was already considered modest heading into release. The film’s Saturday performance contributed $10.7 million, reflecting a 41% change from Friday and preview earnings. It also collected about $30 million from international markets.

Directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock, Supergirl follows Kara Zor-El as she teams up with an unlikely companion after an unexpected adversary strikes close to home. Their mission takes them on an interstellar journey driven by vengeance and justice. The production carries a reported budget of approximately $170 million before marketing costs.
