Disneyland Resort‘s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will enter a new chapter this spring, with a planned expansion of its timeline and the introduction of some of the saga’s most recognizable characters. The changes are scheduled to take effect on April 29, 2026, marking a significant evolution in how the land portrays the Star Wars story.
Galaxy’s Edge Timeline to Expand
When the themed land opened at Disneyland Park, it was set in the era between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but the upcoming update completely departs from that timeline, exploring earlier points in the franchise’s history. Guests will soon encounter characters and storylines connected to the Galactic Civil War and New Republic periods, as well as the Age of the Resistance and First Order.
Disney announced that Black Spire Outpost will shift back several decades, bringing in beloved characters from different points in the Star Wars saga, updated props and visuals, and music from the Star Wars film scores throughout the land.
“Each era will be brought to life with the same care and attention to detail that the land was originally designed with, masterfully weaving together stories from across time and space in one location,” the official Disney Parks Blog notes.
Iconic Star Wars Saga Characters to Join Galaxy’s Edge

Among the characters guests will be able to meet are Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo, who will roam the streets of Batuu alongside familiar figures already at Batuu, like Ahsoka Tano, The Mandalorian and Grogu. Darth Vader’s presence is part of a story in which he searches for Luke Skywalker, while Leia Organa may be seen near the Millennium Falcon, rallying support. Han Solo will also appear around his prized ship, and Luke Skywalker will roam the outpost seeking knowledge of the Force.
Meanwhile, the wooded area on the edge of Black Spire Outpost will remain set in a period inspired by the Age of Resistance, where guests can encounter Rey at the Resistance camp.
John Williams’ Scores to Fill Galaxy’s Edge

As guests explore the towering trees that define Batuu’s skyline, they’ll hear music from legendary composer John Williams, drawing from the scores of the first six Star Wars films.
Traveling through the tunnels of the land, guests will listen to the “Main Title” and Force Theme, while other classic tracks, including “Han Solo and the Princess,” “The Desert and the Robot Auction,” and “The Emperor,” will be played throughout the land.
Disney’s announcement also noted that the lively “Cantina Band” tune will be heard from within Oga’s Cantina. Set during the Galactic Civil War, the cantina—recently opened by proprietor Oga Garra—has already become a popular gathering spot for travelers from across the galaxy.
Updates to Shops and Local Establishments

In addition to character appearances and soundtrack enhancements, shops and other areas of Galaxy’s Edge will reflect the wider timeline. For example, First Order Cargo will transform into Black Spire Surplus, offering artifacts tied to the Galactic Civil War, and Dok‑Ondar’s Den of Antiquities will showcase era‑appropriate artifacts.
Moreover, an earlier generation of the Mubo family will be running Droid Depot, where they will be prototyping the BB-style droid. Guests will still have the chance to build and take home their own droid companion. Plus, in his quest for knowledge about lightsabers and the Force, Luke Skywalker will seek out Savi. Guests will continue to have the opportunity to craft their own lightsabers under the guidance of Savi’s Gatherers.
Favorite Experiences to Remain Available Despite Timeline Expansion

Despite the expanded timeline, core attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, as well as existing food and drink offerings, such as blue milk and ronto wraps, will remain part of the experience. Nighttime entertainment, like the projection show “Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga” and the “Fire of the Rising Moons” fireworks view, will continue to use the dramatic backdrop of Batuu’s spires.
These updates are exclusive to Disneyland in California; the Galaxy’s Edge experience at Walt Disney World in Florida is not expected to receive the same timeline shift at this time.
