Universal Orlando is gearing up to open its all-new Epic Universe theme park, with intentions to be “fully opened as early as Memorial Day weekend of next year,” as stated in a report released by the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, which cited sources familiar with the matter.
Universal did not confirm the information in the Wall Street Journal report; however, an executive previously mentioned it would be open by summer. All communication from Universal has consistently referred to a broader projected timeline of 2025.
The new timeline referenced by the Wall Street Journal is in line with the historical opening schedules of other Universal Orlando parks, which usually launch in late May or early June, coinciding with Memorial Day weekend or shortly thereafter. For instance, Universal Studios Florida made its debut on June 7, 1990, slightly over a week following Memorial Day. Islands of Adventure opened on May 28, 1999, during Memorial Day weekend, while Volcano Bay welcomed guests on May 25, 2017, right in time for the holiday weekend.
The Wall Street Journal also anticipates that tickets for Epic Universe could be available for purchase as soon as this month. Previous reports suggest that Universal might introduce a multi-day ticketing policy for guests interested in visiting Epic Universe, meaning single-day tickets may not be offered in the park’s initial operational phase. Universal has not publicly commented on this information.
Epic Universe was first announced in 2019 and is set to feature five immersive themed lands: Celestial Park, Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk.
