Zootopia 2 is on the verge of crossing $1 billion worldwide, setting a new record as the fastest PG-rated film to reach that benchmark. The Disney sequel has brought in $986.1 million so far and is expected to surpass the mark on Friday.
The film has taken in $232.7 million domestically and $753.4 million from international markets. It’s the third movie of 2025 to hit $1 billion, joining Disney’s Lilo & Stitch ($1.03 billion) and China’s animated film Ne Zha 2 ($1.9 billion). Only 13 animated films have ever crossed the $1 billion mark, and 10 of them are Disney movies. The achievement also gives Walt Disney Animation Studios its first back-to-back billion-dollar releases, following last year’s Moana 2. Since 2013, the studio has reached the milestone with five films: Frozen, Frozen 2, Moana 2, Zootopia, and now Zootopia 2.
Arriving nine years after the original hit, Zootopia 2 opened ahead of Thanksgiving and posted a massive debut: $158 million in North America and $559 million worldwide over the five-day holiday weekend. The sequel has seen standout success in China, where it has earned $430 million to date. It now holds the title of the second-biggest non-local release in the country’s history, behind Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame at $632 million.
Zootopia 2 reunites audiences with Detectives Judy Hopps, voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, and Nick Wilde, voiced by Jason Bateman, for a new investigation. This time, the duo takes on Gary De’Snake, a pit viper voiced by award-winning actor Ke Huy Quan. The new character arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down, leading Judy and Nick undercover into lesser-known corners of the metropolis as they try to crack the case.
