Universal Pictures’ Wicked: For Good soared to the top of the weekend box office, delivering a powerhouse debut.
The film opened to $150 million domestically and $226 million worldwide, surpassing the release of its predecessor, Wicked, which premiered last year with $112.5 million domestically and $164.2 million globally during the pre-Thanksgiving weekend. With its release, Wicked: For Good now sits as the fourth-highest global opening of 2025, behind Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch ($341 million), Jurassic World Rebirth ($322 million), and A Minecraft Movie ($313 million). It also holds the biggest opening for a Broadway adaptation in worldwide, international, and North American markets.
Wicked: For Good brings Elphaba’s story to its conclusion. After standing up to the Wizard’s authoritarian rule in Oz, she faces the reality of being labeled the “Wicked Witch of the West.” At the same time, the Wizard names Glinda “Glinda the Good,” positioning her as the nation’s protector in the campaign against Elphaba. The two witches confront choices that ultimately define their destinies.
Jon M. Chu directs the film, which features Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, with Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.
