Reports have surfaced, confirming Universal Studios’ potential plans to open a new theme park resort in the United Kingdom. A Universal Destinations & Experiences spokesperson has revealed to various media outlets, including WESH 2 News and the Bedford Independent, that the company recently acquired a substantial parcel of land in Bedford, England. According to Orlando Park Stop, Comcast acquired approximately 500 acres of former brickworks land in the Bedford area.
“We recently acquired land in Bedford and are at the early stages of exploring its feasibility for a potential park and resort at this site,” a Universal Destinations & Experiences spokesperson said. “It will be many months before we are ready to make a decision to proceed, and we look forward to engaging with all relevant stakeholders and the local community.”
Situated approximately 60 miles outside of London, Bedford holds the potential for a thriving theme park destination. Universal Studios recognizes the strategic advantages of this location, stating, “Bedford has excellent transportation connectivity to London and Europe with more than half of the UK population within two hours, including just 45 minutes outside of London.” Additionally, the region benefits from its proximity to the Luton airport.
NBCUniversal has taken steps by registering a series of website domains under the names Universal Studios Great Britain and Universal Great Britain, as reported by Orlando Park Stop.
Specific details regarding this development are yet to be revealed as Universal evaluates its options to proceed.
