Disney is beginning to remove content from its streaming services, Disney+ and Hulu, after the company announced the venture during a recent earnings call this month.

The move comes as the company aims to reduce its expenditures and after it revealed that Disney+ lost 4 million subscribers in the first three months of 2023.

The list of content the company is removing includes mostly short-lived series, specials, and direct-to-streaming movies. Many of the titles that will be erased from the Disney-owned streaming services will begin as soon as next week on May 26th.

“As we grow the business in terms of the global footprint, we realized that we made a lot of content that is not necessarily driving sub-growth,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said. “And we’re getting much more surgical about what it is we make.”

This action follows in the steps of Warner Bros. Discovery, who also removed content from its streaming platform, HBO Max, last year. Some of those titles later resurfaced on third-party platforms, including Tubi and Roku. Though Disney has not confirmed if a similar route will be taken, it is a possibility.
