Universal Orlando has revealed new details about Dark Universe, a Universal Monsters-themed land set to open at Epic Universe in 2025. Dark Universe will transport guests into the timeless stories of legendary monsters like Dracula, The Wolf Man, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, and more while introducing new monstrous characters, including Dr. Victoria Frankenstein, the great-great-granddaughter of the infamous Henry Frankenstein, who has taken up her ancestor’s dubious experiments.

Explore Darkmoor

As soon as guests venture into Dark Universe, they’ll find themselves in Darkmoor, a village ravaged by time and monster-fueled chaos. In this themed area, guests can expect to encounter the characters and subjects of Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s experiments. Additionally, Frankenstein Manor will stand as the towering focal point of Dark Universe.

  • Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment: Descend into the eerie depths of Frankenstein Manor, where Dr. Victoria Frankenstein conducts her eerie experiments. In a bold demonstration of her genius, she welcomes visitors into her lab to exhibit her command over monsters. Her plans, however, go awry when her efforts to control Dracula backfire, releasing a torrent of enraged creatures. Guests are thrust into a thrilling journey through darkness, evading the grasp of The Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Brides of Dracula, and other menacing beings.

  • Curse of the Werewolf: Nestled in the woods on the outskirts of Darkmoor, this spinning family coaster, inspired by “The Wolf Man,” will have guests enter the encampment of The Guild of Mystics, where they’ll be welcomed by Maleva, the guild’s all-knowing seer and leader, who warns them that they bear the mark of the werewolf. Boarding a wagon, guests will embark on a thrilling ride through the forest, racing to evade the werewolves and avoid succumbing to the curse themselves.

  • Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience: Dr. Pretorius’ notorious old lab has been transformed into a parlor where guests can don face paint and temporary tattoos to embrace their inner monster.

  • Meet the Monsters: Guests will come across various monsters in Dark Universe, including Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, and The Invisible Man, as well as residents of the village, including Ygor, a monster hunter, and a musician performing songs and telling tales of the classic Universal Monsters.

  • Das Stakehaus: This restaurant, operated by vampire “familiars” who subtly evaluate unwitting guests as potential additions to the vampires’ banquet, is set against a backdrop of artwork and artifacts chronicling the history of the village’s nocturnal creatures. The restaurant’s menu for guests includes kebabs, burgers, sandwiches, and more.

  • The Burning Blade Tavern: Darkmoor’s monster hunters have converted a once-fiery mill into their preferred gathering spot. Guests can savor a menu featuring burgers, wings, bratwurst, pretzels, and specialty beverages. As they dine, they’ll be regaled with tales of the notorious “Hounds,” boastful hunters from lands beyond Darkmoor. All of this takes place amidst a display of monster heads, proudly showcased as their “trophies.”
  • De Lacey’s Cottage: This food stand was where the original Frankenstein’s Monster once found nourishment and companionship. The stand serves a selection of snacks and cool treats, including cinnamon bread, ice cream, twisted taters, and more.
  • Guests can purchase various commemorative merchandise from retail spots throughout Dark Universe, including Pretorius’ Scientific Oddities.

Universal Epic Universe is set to open in 2025. The theme park will feature additional themed worlds including Celestial Park, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Super Nintendo World, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic (details yet to be revealed).
