A new chapter in The Big Bang Theory universe is on the way. The upcoming spinoff, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, has released its first teaser and confirmed a summer release date during Warner Bros. Discovery’s Upfront presentation in New York.

The series marks another expansion of the franchise following the long-running original sitcom The Big Bang Theory, as well as its previous offshoot Young Sheldon, and the currently airing Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

The new ten-episode series centers on Stuart Bloom, the comic book store owner, who suddenly finds himself responsible for fixing reality after accidentally damaging a device created by Sheldon and Leonard. The mishap triggers a multiverse collapse, forcing Stuart into an unexpected role as the reluctant fixer of existence.

The teaser opens with an exterior shot of the Comic Center of Pasadena, where Bert walks in and greets Stuart. Stuart asks how things are out there, and the footage cuts to the chaotic state of the world. Bert responds that there’s “room for improvement.”

The teaser shifts to an alternate version of Stuart, who explains that he comes from another timeline. He tells Stuart that he can set things right and restore reality to how it once was, as scenes of the multiverse collapsing play in the background.

The cast includes Kevin Sussman as Stuart, Lauren Lapkus as Stuart’s girlfriend Denise, Brian Posehn as Bert, and John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke.

The series is written and executive-produced by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady. Lorre and Prady co-created The Big Bang Theory, while Lorre has also been involved as co-creator and executive producer across all of its spinoffs.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will premiere on HBO Max on Thursday, July 23, at 9 p.m. ET, with new episodes releasing weekly on Thursdays.
