We visited Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World today, September 2, to check out the latest updates on the Rivers of America following its permanent closure on July 7, 2025. We observed new progress at the site as Disney works to transform the Rivers of America to create a new area themed to Pixar‘s Cars and an all-new land dedicated to the Disney villains.

The river is nearly completely dry, revealing the entire track for the riverboat. What’s left are just a few puddles, probably due to the frequent storms, with pumps set up to remove the water. Moreover, a considerable amount of mud has been removed from both the riverbed and the riverboat track. The virtually empty river has allowed crews to set up lighting equipment and scaffolding throughout the site. The installation of scaffolding along the boardwalk began last week, indicating that construction walls may soon be erected to obstruct views of the site completely. The boardwalk is currently the only area around the Rivers of America that remains free of walls.

A small section of the riverboat track was removed, possibly to create an access point for crews to conveniently reach both sides of the riverbed with vehicles and other equipment. However, all of the tracks may eventually be removed during demolition.

Additional scaffolding parts were placed beneath the boardwalk near Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

We spotted a dropped iPhone on the riverbed near the boardwalk. Its components were separated and scattered throughout the area.
