New Ice Cream Parlor to Open at Give Kids The World Village

Give Kids The World, an 84-acre, non-profit “storybook” resort in Central Florida for kids with critical illnesses and their families, is developing a new addition to their Village called “Henri’s Starlite Scoops.” Earlier this month, the Kissimmee-based nonprofit shared a look at the development that is slated to open in late 2019.

Henri’s Starlite Scoops incorporates a space theme to tie into the resort’s themed environment. To further immerse guests into the ice cream parlor’s space theme, a 30-foot UFO will be placed on the top of the building with windows that look into “space.” This $2 million venue is a special addition, however, as it pays tribute to the organization’s founder, Henri Landwirth, who managed the Starlite Motel in Cocoa Beach prior to founding Give Kids The World.

Michael Bausman, project manager at Give Kids The World, highlighted that “the entire building is designed with . . . guests’ needs in mind.” One accommodation includes accessible ice cream chest freezers to allow guests in wheelchairs to easily choose their ice cream flavor. Additionally, the countertops and the structure’s floorplan is designed for guests in wheelchairs.

Henri’s Starlite Scoops will provide guests with unlimited ice cream, a treat the organization built a legacy on since 1989. “Unlimited ice cream is an important part of giving wish families a week of ‘yes’ where they can forget the worries of critical illness,” said Pamela Landwirth, president and CEO of Give Kids The World.
