ICON Park has implemented a new chaperone policy requiring adult supervision for minors following a large “takeover” event on Saturday, April 25, in which more than 1,000 teenagers gathered at the entertainment complex, leading to multiple fights, arrests, and injuries to law enforcement officers.

The incident over the weekend prompted a large-scale response from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, which deployed more than 50 deputies to disperse the crowd after altercations began around 7:30 p.m. Authorities said the situation took hours to fully bring under control.

Two deputies were injured during the response and were treated at a local hospital. Officials confirmed both have since been released and are expected to make a full recovery.

Nine individuals, ranging in age from 13 to 16, were that evening. Charges include battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with and without violence, affray, and trespass after warning.

ICON Park’s new chaperone policy may be activated at any time and requires guests 17 years old and younger to be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or chaperone aged 21 or older.

Under the policy, one chaperone may supervise up to six minors. Chaperones must enter with their group, remain on property during the visit, and be reachable by phone at all times. ICON Park also stated it does not assume responsibility or liability for unattended minors and that guardians may be held legally accountable for the actions of those under their supervision.

In a statement, ICON Park said it is working alongside local partners to maintain a safe environment.

“ICON Park is aligned with Orange County’s approach, with leadership from Commissioner Mike Scott, to address the increase in large, organized group meetups at entertainment destinations across Central Florida. We also appreciate the continued support of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.”

Orange County Commissioner Mike Scott said officials are responding to a broader trend of organized gatherings at entertainment venues.

“We are aware of a growing pattern of large, organized gatherings at entertainment destinations, and we are taking a proactive approach to ensure these environments remain welcoming for everyone.”

The sheriff’s office has also confirmed they are aware of another planned teen “takeover” scheduled for May 9 at ICON Park. Officials said an increased presence will be in place to deter similar incidents.
