Disney has announced updates coming to the classic Carousel of Progress attraction at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World.
Among the changes is the addition of a brand-new introductory scene and Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney himself.
Kirsten Komoroske, Executive Director of the Walt Disney Family Museum, commented on this development, stating, “We are grateful to The Walt Disney Company and Walt Disney Imagineering for their continued collaboration and ongoing partnership with The Walt Disney Family Museum. The introduction of a new Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney in ‘Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress’ marks an exciting milestone in our shared mission to celebrate the story of the man behind the magic and inspire new generations with his innovations and vision for the future. We appreciate the continued efforts and meticulous care that Imagineering has taken to keep Walt’s legacy alive.”
In addition to this introductory scene, further updates to the attraction will be revealed at a later date; Disney mentioned that we will find out what John, Sarah, and the rest of the family are up to.
In a post published to the Disney Parks Blog, Disney Imagineers expressed their love for this attraction, emphasizing that “the heart of it will stay the same while introducing the Carousel of Progress to an entirely new generation of fans.”
The Carousel of Progress showcases the evolution of technology throughout the 20th century through a dynamic Audio-Animatronics show. Originally conceived by Walt Disney as part of a new area at Disneyland Park called Edison Square, the concept was reimagined and ultimately opened as “Progressland” at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. Following its fair run, the attraction moved to Disneyland Park and was later renamed “The Carousel of Progress.” In 1975, the attraction moved to Magic Kingdom.
