The long-running stunt show “The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad” will reportedly close forever on September 15th at Islands of Adventure. The show, which is located in The Lost Continent area of the park, has been open to guests since 1999, and while it has gone through several renditions in its history, it seems the end has finally come. The show featured numerous death-defying stunts and plenty of action, including explosions, sword fights, and lighting effects.
Although Universal Orlando has not released any information about this news to the general public, a spokesperson for the resort made an official comment on the show’s closure when approached by theme park site Attractions Magazine.
“The ‘Eighth Voyage of Sindbad’ at Universal’s Islands of Adventure will run its last shows on Saturday, September 15. As we continue to evolve our entertainment offerings, we will share updates along the way.”
Just as with many other Universal ride closure announcements, few details were revealed as to what might replace the show. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter took away a large portion of The Lost Continent and then encroached more into the area when the train station was built. Once Sindbad closes, all that will remain of The Lost Continent is the walkthrough attraction, Poseidon’s Fury, and its surrounding area, which includes a few small shops and restaurants as well as the Mythos restaurant.
For many years, rumors have floated around about the remainder of The Lost Continent eventually being removed to make way for a new attraction or idea, and now it seems that time may be fast approaching. Whatever does replace The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad might give a hint as to what the fate of the rest of The Lost Continent may be. As soon as details are shared by Universal, we will inform you.
