Universal Destinations & Experiences is gearing up for the grand opening of Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas, a first-of-a-kind resort focused on creating experiences for families and children. Slated to open its gates in 2026, Universal has officially announced that the park will feature immersive themed lands inspired by characters and franchises including DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek, Puss in Boots, Trolls, and Gabby’s Dollhouse; Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants; Illumination’s Minions, as well as Jurassic World.
In Shrek’s Swamp, a playground designed by the iconic ogre himself, children can stomp, ride, laugh, and play, celebrating the values of friendship, family warmth, and love.
Under the sea, guests can immerse themselves in the whimsical world of SpongeBob SquarePants. Alongside SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy Cheeks, and Squidward, families can explore their underwater neighborhood, earning boating licenses and relaxing on the beach while bubbles float by.
The Minions will take over another area of the park, where a peaceful vacation retreat becomes a hub of frantic fun. When Yellow Minions try to control their Purple counterparts, it results in a torrent of unpredictable, water-filled fun. Guests can either join in on this competition or simply sit back and enjoy the chaos.
For dino-enthusiasts, the Jurassic World area offers a chance to come face-to-face with some of the franchise’s most beloved dinosaurs in engaging and interactive experiences; it’s designed for young explorers eager to learn about these prehistoric creatures.
The park will also host a vibrant music festival showcasing Trolls. Alongside characters like Poppy and Branch, guests can bring their voices together, celebrating music and joy in a glittering, colorful environment that fosters creativity and fun.
With Puss in Boots guests can participate in a kitty adoption drive featuring playful decorations, sideshow games, and festive food options. For those in need of a little rest, the sensory garden provides a tranquil space for families to recharge.
At the center of Universal Kids Resort will be a hub designed for relaxation and play. Shady lawns and interactive play areas will invite families to unwind and play. Additionally, guests will have the chance to popular characters, like Gabby from Gabby’s Dollhouse in a unique retail experience.
“At Universal Kids Resort, children will have the opportunity to play, sing, dance and discover with some of their favorite characters,” said Dan Cuffe, Vice President and General Manager of Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas. “Beyond the highly-engaging attractions and shows, families will find ample areas to rest and also enjoy themed food and beverages and shop for fun character souvenirs. Each of these areas elicit wonder with a lush, colorful environment.”

Universal Kids Resort will also feature a 300-room, colorfully themed hotel. Tailored with family-friendly amenities, this hotel will serve as the main gateway to the resort.
