The script for the sixth Purge film is written! Actually, it was written back in 2021, according to creator James DeMonaco. Yet the film still remains in limbo.
The Purge 6 takes a bold and thought-provoking approach by exploring how we are all separated by ideology and sexual preference in a dystopian society. As tensions rise, this gripping storyline delves into the consequences of a world that fosters extreme divisions and exclusionary mindsets.
“It [. . .] presents a fractured America, DeMonaco said. The America I present in Purge 6 is where we are all separated by ideology and sexual preference. So, the states are broken down in different ways.”
DeMonaco commented to The Playlist that the film hit a roadblock as the script sits in limbo due to likely budget concerns Universal Pictures has with bringing this ambitious vision to life.
“There are concerns about budget,” he said. It’s written, it’s in [Universal’s] hands. I think they’re scared about the budget,” he continued. But my thing was if I was going to come back and direct a sixth one, it was going to be something bigger and a little more epic in scope, with this new America I want to present and bringing back [Frank Grillo’s] character. So, it’s kinda in limbo.”
While fans eagerly await the next installment of the popular franchise, it seems that our deepest fears and anxieties about societal divisions will have to wait a little longer to be unleashed on the big screen.
