Royal Caribbean announced all-new details about its Symphony of the Seas ship, set to sail in spring 2018. Symphony of the Seas, which is an Oasis Class ship, will surpass Harmony of the Seas as the largest cruise ship ever constructed by gross tonnage. While the new vessel will feature similar experiences as Harmony of the Seas, it will also introduce a handful of new activities, shows, locations, and more.

Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class ships have introduced some of the largest features at sea. When Harmony of the Seas debuted in 2016, it welcomed the largest dry slide at sea―the Ultimate Abyss―and when Symphony of the Seas debuts, it will introduce the largest laser tag arena at sea. The cruise line’s first-ever laser tag area will be themed to a “far-flung galaxy in a distant future” in which two forces collide.

Symphony of the Seas will welcome an all-new suite that targets families with young children. The suite, titled Ultimate Family Suite, will boast more than 1,300 square feet in size and will include a children’s and adult’s room. The two-level suite will feature a slide, giving children easy access from their bedroom to the living room, a private 3D cinema, an air hockey table, a full-size whirlpool, a bumper pool table, and more.

According to Royal Caribbean International, the new vessel will feature only one Ultimate Family Suite.

Symphony of the Seas will also add new dining and shopping locations throughout its distinct neighborhoods to provide guests with experiences different from its existing Oasis Class vessels. New locations include Sugar Beach (pictured below at upper left), a shop located at the Boardwalk that sells confectionary treats; Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade (pictured below at upper right), a Boardwalk dining location that will feature an arcade and more than two dozen televisions; El Loco Fresh (pictured below at lower left), a quick-service restaurant offering fresh-made Mexican favorites; and Hooked Seafood (pictured below at lower right), a New England-style restaurant located at the Solarium that offers fresh seafood.

According to the cruise line’s announcement, Symphony of the Seas will reintroduce the Broadway musical “Hairspray” and will launch three brand new shows throughout the vessel―”HiRo,” the ship’s new AquaTheater acrobatics show, “Flight,” a show that takes guests through the history and the future of flying, and “1977,” an ice-skating spectacular that takes place in London.

Like existing  Oasis Class ships, Symphony of the Seas will feature seven neighborhoods: Central Park, Boardwalk, Royal Promenade, Pool & Sports Zone, Entertainment Place, Youth Zone, and Vitality at Sea Spa & Fitness Center. Together, Symphony of the Seas has more boroughs than New York City.
