Disney’s Hollywood Studios is undergoing a massive overhaul that will completely transform the park from what it was previously like. With the opening of Toy Story Land on June 30th and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge set to open in late fall next year, Hollywood Studios will finally become a full day park bustling with brand new attractions.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will immerse guests into the Star Wars universe like never before. The above and below images show the model for the all-new area currently being built.
Hollywood Studios’ Star Wars area will span over 14-acres in size, according to Disney, and it will feature two major attractions that place guests in a battle between the First Order and the Resistance.
Galaxy’s Edge is located on the south-west side of Hollywood Studios in the area where the Lights, Motors, Action stunt show was.
At the beginning of the month, the first spaceship arrived at the site. The spacecraft is red and gray in color; it can be seen in the above image.
In these images taken from Toy Story Land, we can see rockwork and the facades of some buildings starting to take shape.
As noted earlier, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is scheduled to open in fall 2019. Disney has not yet announced an official opening date.
In addition to Star Wars, Disney is developing a new transportation system for hotel guests to access the park. The system will feature numerous stations, including one at Hollywood Studios.
The system will provide an alternative transportation method to guests staying at select on-site hotels.
The Disney Skyliner is a gondola lift system that is supported and propelled by cables located above the vehicles as well as supporting towers.
In the above photo, we can see one of the supporting towers. These towers consist of sheave wheels, which are essentially pulleys that allow the vehicles to move.
Toy Story Land officially opened to the public in June. It features two new rides: Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers.
The area is designed to give guests the impression that they have shrunk down to the size of a toy and are in Andy’s backyard.
Since opening, Toy Story Land has seen large crowds as expected.
Slinky Dog Dash is a family-friendly coaster, but it has been a hit with most visitors. The ride is one of the most popular in the park.
Hollywood Studios’ developments are not too far away from completion. In addition to Galaxy’s Edge, the park will also receive a ride themed to Mickey Mouse. The attraction, named Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, will open next year in the location of the Great Movie Ride, which closed last August. Because construction is taking place inside the Chinese Theater, we are not able to capture images of progress.
