Walt Disney World is developing a new Monstropolis land inspired by Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., taking the place of the former Muppets area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which permanently closed in June 2025. Disney has yet to disclose all the details for the upcoming land, but we can make some insightful predictions based on previous announcements and official concept art released by the company.

The latest concept art for Monstropolis highlights several changes from earlier versions and illustrates how the former Muppets area will be reworked through a modest expansion and retheming of existing buildings. We’ve labeled the concept art and will go through each number in order to explain the details.

1. New Monsters, Inc. Roller Coaster

The biggest highlight of this new land is an all-new suspended roller coaster, a first for any Disney park. Rather than replacing an existing attraction, the coaster will slightly expand the footprint of Disney’s Hollywood Studios by taking over a portion of the park’s Cast Member parking lot.

Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro previously offered insight into the upcoming attraction, explaining how it will recreate a memorable moment from the film: “Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

The TikTok video below from Disney Parks offers an animated preview of the attraction.

2. Harryhausen’s to Replace Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano

Early concept art for the Monsters, Inc. land suggested the inclusion of Harryhausen’s, a Japanese-style restaurant featured in the film, though its exact location was unclear at the time. More recent concept art, however, indicates it will take over the former site of Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano. While Disney has not formally announced Harryhausen’s, the artwork strongly points to its arrival, likely as a full-service dining location, given Mama Melrose’s was full-service.

3. Former It’s a Wonderful Shop Location

It’s a Wonderful Shop has been closed for quite some time, even before the Muppets area was permanently shut down this year. Disney has not shared any plans for the space. Previous concept art for the Monsters, Inc. land included a rooftop billboard promoting Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, an attraction currently at Magic Kingdom, though the latest concept art has removed it. That billboard likely served as a placeholder rather than suggesting the attraction would move into this retail space. It’s reasonable to assume Disney will put the space to use again—especially to avoid having an abandoned area in the new land—most likely repurposing it as a new retail location.

4. Stage 1 Company Store Demolished for Green Space

The Stage 1 Company Store, like It’s a Wonderful Shop, had been closed for an extended period even before the Muppets area was permanently closed.

The building has since been demolished, and concept art shows the area being converted into green space, complete with a canopy. The specific use of the space beneath the canopy has not been confirmed, but the presence of what appear to be kiosks suggests it may function as a snack stand.

5. Changes to PizzeRizzo

Disney has not revealed what will replace PizzeRizzo, and the available concept art is vague. The most straightforward option would be to retheme the existing building to fit the new Monsters, Inc. setting, allowing it to continue operating as a quick-service restaurant. This approach would require minimal structural changes, since the space is already equipped to function as a dining location.

What the menu will look like is still unclear. Before becoming PizzeRizzo, the location operated as Pizza Planet, a Toy Story–themed restaurant, and it remained centered on pizza in both iterations. Given that history, it is possible the space will continue serving pizza under a Monsters, Inc. theme when it reopens, but that remains to be seen.

6. Muppet*Vision 3D to Become New Show

The beloved Muppet*Vision 3D attraction is permanently closed, but Disney has not yet announced its replacement, only sharing that the new Monsters, Inc. land will include an all-new theater show. Given that the Muppet*Vision 3D building is already set up for a show, and concept art depicts a theater entrance with a marquee similar to the original but with a refreshed design, it’s safe to say that the new show will be housed in this location. Specifics about the attraction, however, remain unknown.

We’d like to highlight that the latest concept art for this building, displayed just below this section’s heading, names the theater The Glob, while a previous version, shown above, referred to it as The Monstro. The facade has also undergone minor changes.

7. New Fountain Feature

The Miss Piggy fountain in front of Muppet*Vision 3D has already been removed, and the latest concept art reveals a new fountain in its place. This design differs from earlier concept art, shown below, which depicted an eye-themed fountain replacement. The updated fountain represents a notable upgrade, featuring a more elaborate design with additional water elements.
