Magic Kingdom will see significant changes as Disney has announced the permanent closure of the Liberty Square Riverboat, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Rivers of America, starting July 7, 2025. The last day for guests to experience these offerings will be July 6, 2025.
In addition, the Walt Disney World Railroad will be operating under a modified route. Beginning July 7, the Walt Disney World Railroad will only travel between the Main Street, U.S.A. station and the Fantasyland station; the Frontierland station will be excluded.

The Liberty Square Riverboat provides a scenic tour along the Rivers of America, while Tom Sawyer Island offers guests an immersive experience into Mark Twain’s stories, featuring suspension bridges, caves, and more.
These closures will pave the way for new attractions inspired by Pixar’s Cars. These experiences will be part of a new area called Piston Peak National Park, which will be different from Cars Land at Disney California Adventure and will serve as an expansion to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom. Piston Peak National Park will be part of the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom’s history.

Inspired by the Rocky Mountain region and the history of the American Frontier, Piston Peak National Park will include snowcapped mountains, waterfalls, roaring rivers, and geysers.
Guests will have the opportunity to explore the visitor lodge, Ranger HQ, and various trails, all integrated into the Pixar Cars universe. To help these buildings fit naturally within the landscapes, Imagineers are implementing a design approach known as “Parkitecture,” which was developed by the National Park Service to create structures that harmonize with the natural environment.
Imagineers are also adding natural barriers to help Piston Peak blend in with its surroundings. Trees will serve as natural barriers between the off-road rally and other sections of Frontierland and Liberty Square. Rugged mountains will be positioned along a waterway across from Grizzly Hall, while geysers from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will extend into the off-road rally trails.
Disney has previously revealed that this new area will include a rally-race ride, where guests will speed through mountains, navigate trails, and dodge geysers. Additionally, there will be a second Cars-themed attraction specifically designed for family fun. In March, Disney shared a look at how they were bringing the rally-race ride to life.
