As Universal Orlando gears up for the grand opening of its all-new Epic Universe theme park on May 22, 2025, reports have surfaced regarding the potential implementation of Virtual Lines for accessing the park’s themed worlds. We’re uncertain when this information was first made available, but the official Universal Orlando website states that a Virtual Line may be utilized for entry into the themed worlds within Epic Universe.
According to the website, “Virtual Line return times may be used for various experiences, including select attractions and entertainment throughout Universal Orlando Resort as well as world entry at Universal Epic Universe. Be sure to check our App for the most up-to-date details!”
When Epic Universe was first added to the Universal Orlando app a few months ago, it displayed that Virtual Lines were to be used for entry into Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk. However, this mention was removed from the app shortly after.
With the Universal Orlando website now indicating that the Virtual Line may be used to enter the themed worlds at Epic Universe, there’s a real possibility that guests may need to secure a return time to explore sections of the park—at least during peak periods.

Epic Universe features a unique design where each themed world is accessed via portals, creating intriguing entrances but also presenting potential challenges. With the park’s layout requiring guests entering and exiting each world to flow in the same direction, bottlenecks could occur, especially when the park officially opens. Conversely, the portal concept also gives Universal the ability to easily manage capacity by temporarily closing access to specific worlds when they reach their capacity.
At this time, Universal Orlando has not definitively stated that the Virtual Line will be in place for world entries. The official stance remains that it “may be used” if deemed necessary. It is quite common for highly popular rides and themed areas to implement such measures; Universal has used the Virtual Line system for entry into Super Nintendo World at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Japan to manage capacity.

This is not acceptable!!! The virtual line is a joke. They really need to come up with a fair way too do this. Virtual lines are not the way.
Just got back from there and it was a S-show. Cancelled my third day ticket and went to islands of adventure instead. Ioa is still the best park hands down.
