The Walt Disney Studios is finishing 2025 as the top studio, posting the highest global box office total of the year.

Disney is the first and only studio in 2025 to surpass $6 billion globally. Of that total, $2.3 billion came from domestic releases, while $3.65 billion was earned internationally. This marks Disney’s fifth time crossing the $6 billion benchmark and its first since the COVID-19 pandemic. The studio previously achieved this level of box office success in 2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016. Notably, no other studio has reached $6 billion in a single year since 2015.

The next closest competitor is Warner Bros., which is finishing the year with $4.3 billion in global box office revenue. Although the studio was outperformed by Disney, it became the first to cross $4 billion worldwide in 2025, marking its strongest theatrical performance since 2019.

Disney is also the only U.S. studio in 2025 to release billion-dollar movies—and it did so twice. Lilo & Stitch earned $1.03 billion worldwide, while Zootopia 2 surged past $1.4 billion and continues to add to its total. Warner Bros.’ A Minecraft Movie came close, earning $958 million at the worldwide box office.

Beyond its billion-dollar successes, other Disney titles this year helped push the studio past the $6 billion mark. James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, released on December 19, earned $450 million worldwide within its first week of release, positioning it for a lengthy run. Disney’s Marvel Studios also contributed significantly, with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Thunderbolts*, and Captain America: Brave New World combining for $1.3 billion globally.

Despite outperforming every other studio and delivering record-breaking hits, Disney also released several underperforming films in 2025. Titles such as Pixar’s Elio ($154 million), the live-action Snow White ($205 million), and Tron: Ares ($142 million) fell well short of expectations and resulted in significant losses relative to their production budgets.
