Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third installment in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, continues its dominant run at the box office, holding the top spot for the third consecutive week and officially crossing the $1 billion mark worldwide.

The film reached the milestone after 18 days of release, amassing $1.083 billion globally, including $306 million domestically and $777.1 million internationally.

The pace closely mirrors its predecessors. For comparison, 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water crossed $1 billion after 14 days, while 2009’s original Avatar reached the mark after 17 days. Both earlier films went on to dominate theaters and became two of the highest-grossing movies of all time. The original Avatar earned $2.9 billion worldwide, while Avatar: The Way of Water finished its run with $2.3 billion.

Avatar: Fire and Ash marks director James Cameron’s fourth film to surpass $1 billion, joining Titanic and the previous Avatar entries. Cameron remains the only filmmaker with three films that have each grossed more than $2 billion worldwide. Additional Avatar installments are already planned in the years ahead.

The film also stands as Disney’s third 2025 release to cross $1 billion globally, following Lilo & Stitch and Zootopia 2, though Avatar: Fire and Ash reached the milestone in early 2026. Collectively, those releases helped push Disney past $6 billion at the global box office in 2025, securing its position as the year’s top studio.

Avatar: Fire and Ash continues the saga of Pandora, following Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and their family as they grapple with grief and escalating conflict. The story introduces a new and aggressive Na’vi tribe, the Ash People, led by the fiery Varang, as tensions rise and a new moral focus emerges.
