Hello, and welcome back to our second installment of articles focusing on this year’s new additions to the major theme park chains around the globe.
Last time, we focused on all of the exciting updates coming to different Universal Studios parks, and this time we will shift focus to Disney. We have compiled the list in a top five format, starting with five and working down to number one. Here are the top five Disney parks projects for 2020:
5) Cirque Du Soleil: Drawn To Life – Disney Springs, Orlando
A brand new show experience is making its way to Disney Springs this year. The ever-popular stage production team at Cirque du Soleil has created a new signature show with a Disney-inspired twist; a spectacle focusing on the magic of animation. The press release for the show reads as follows: “Cirque du Soleil Drawn to Life will transport guests into the world of Disney animation in Cirque du Soleil’s signature style. This entirely new experience will wow Walt Disney World guests and Cirque du Soleil fans, both young and old, while bringing timeless Disney stories to life in an unforgettable new way.”
This show will be held in the Cirque theater at the west end of Disney Springs and is the first show to be held in that venue since La Nouba in 2017.
4) Space 220 – Epcot, Orlando
Space 220 is an all-new highly themed dining venue opening adjacent to Mission: Space in Epcot. Guests will first board a special elevator that takes them 220 miles above the earth to a space station. Here, patrons of Space 220 will have an unobstructed view of planet Earth from outer space thanks to a massive wrap-around screen that surrounds the main dining area. While originally announced for 2019, the project is now expected to open shortly, with construction wrapping up in recent weeks.
3) Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure – Epcot, Orlando
Sticking in Epcot, we now make our way to World Showcase, where an all-new attraction based on the 2007 Pixar film Ratatouille is coming to the France pavilion. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will take guests on a mouse-sized journey around the busy kitchen of Guseau’s from the hit animated film. The ride will use trackless technology and unique special effects to bring the world from the movie to life. This attraction has been built before at the Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris and will be virtually an identical clone. In addition to the ride, the France pavilion will also get a new themed side street and a quick-service crepe restaurant. The attraction is expected to open this summer.
2) Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway – Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Orlando
Situated inside the park’s icon, the Chinese Theater, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a new, state-of-the-art family attraction coming March 4th of this year. Guests will board a train conducted by Goofy and join Mickey and Minnie as they venture their way through the bright and colorful worlds of their animated shorts. This attraction will utilize new technology that allows guests to have environments change around them in the blink of an eye and be able to see 3D effects without the need for glasses. This attraction marks the first time Mickey Mouse has had a ride of his own.
1) Avenger’s Campus: California – Disney’s California Adventure, Anaheim
Starting this summer, Disney’s California Adventure park will debut its newest themed land featuring the amazing heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Avenger’s Campus is a global initiative where guests can counter and train alongside their favorite Marvel comics heroes and join the Avengers team. The land will feature a unique dining location themed to Ant-Man & The Wasp, a new flagship Avenger’s HQ store, a meet & greet with the sorcerer supreme Dr. Strange‚ and will be home to an all-new attraction themed to Spider-Man.
Guests will swing and soar with Spidey and help wrangle some pesky Spider-bots with interactive web shooters. The existing Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout attraction will be part of this new land. This is the first of several Avengers campuses coming to Disney Parks around the globe, including Paris and Hong Kong in the coming years.
