Over the past year, as HBO‘s new Harry Potter series progressed through development, casting, and into production, its debut had been listed as 2027. HBO has now narrowed down that timeline, confirming that the show is set to premiere in early 2027.
The update comes from Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, who shared the news with Deadline during a wide-ranging interview when asked about the series’ release timeline.
“We’ve been saying 2027,” Bloys told Deadline. “I would say, to narrow it down to some extent, early 2027. And now you’re going to ask, does that mean January, February, March, April, that we’re not ready to say. I’ll say early 2027.”
This marks the clearest indication yet of when audiences can expect the television series adaptation. Bloys previously addressed the show’s timeline in a September 2024 interview, when he suggested a “late ’26-’27” window, noting at the time that the writers were still in the early stages and it was too soon to commit to a firm release date.
The new series will introduce a fresh cast to portray the iconic trio. Dominic McLaughlin stars as Harry Potter, with Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The show has been filming in the United Kingdom since the summer. Its adult cast includes Paapa Essiedu, John Lithgow, and Janet McTeer.
The series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod serving as executive producer and directing multiple episodes.
The Harry Potter series will adapt the original novels in greater depth than the film franchise, with each season focusing on a single book.
