Disney has released the first teaser trailer for its live-action remake of Moana.
The trailer features Catherine Laga‘aia starring as Moana performing “I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors)” and revisits well-known scenes from the 2016 animated film, including Moana’s early encounters with the ocean as a child, where the waves interact with her. Viewers also get a glimpse of the Kakamora, the chaotic, coconut-armored pirates. Dwayne Johnson appears briefly in the teaser, returning as the demigod Maui. One shot shows Maui as he transforms from a beetle to his human form. Another moment features him using his magical hook to take the shape of a hawk, jumping from a ledge and flying through the sky.
Disney also unveiled the film’s first official poster.

The film is directed by Thomas Kail, a Tony winner for his work on Hamilton, and produced by Dwayne Johnson, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote music for the original movie. Kail also serves as an executive producer with Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth, and Auliʻi Cravalho, the original voice of Moana.
The live-action Moana is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 10, 2026.
